JS Summer Update Coming

First things first. We’re not dead. :) We do take holidays with our families when we get the chance to do so, especially when we’ve been cranking away these past few months. I apologize that we don’t always get to reply to everything as fast as everyone would like but I want you to all know that we’re just as engaged and enthusiastic about the next major update as we've always been. I know that silence can often feel like a lack of progress to everyone, but I’m also sensitive to striking the right balance between too much talk (and the subsequent speculation that can often cause) and not enough.


I know a lot of you are eager to see what we have up our sleeve and the good news is that you’ll get to see everything much sooner than you likely thought. Everything new that we’re working on (new map, the new Strongholds system, the new modular base building system, improved melee, new itemization, etc) will first hit Test. When is that going to happen? I can now officially announce that we will update Test in June. I can’t give you an exact date, but we'll update everyone here the moment that's about to happen.

As for a teaser of some sort…I think we can put something together. Let me see what I can do.

In the meantime, here's a shot we took in-game this morning.

KotK Game Update 25th May 2017

Expect to see a hotfix coming at around 2pm (Pacific) today. It's client-only, so now server downtime is required.

Changes include:

  • A change has been made to prevent situations where players could circumvent the region locking mechanism.
  • Fixed the bug where would occasionally cause a player’s region selection to randomly change on login.

Unrelated to this hotfix, but knowing you might be interested; after literally working all night, one of our engineers was able to identify what we believe is the root cause of the grenade/throwables crash. A fix has been checked-in on our internal environment. Our Dev/QA teams are planning to do a few playtests this afternoon to confirm that the crash is fixed. Barring any new issues arising, we might try and publish late tonight (after the NA Showdown) or early tomorrow morning. Again, we haven’t confirmed that its 100% fixed yet, but I wanted to share the status of the progress we’re making.

KotK Game Update 22nd May 2017

You will see a small hotfix hitting Steam very soon. It contains the following changes:

  • Additional changes have been made to further improve framerate for players that saw a decrease in FPS after last week’s game update.
  • Based on player feedback the ability to toggle shadows on/off has been added to the in-game options menu. However, as with other gameplay rules, we may enforce shadows to be turned on for some game modes or events in the future.

Just Survive Game Update 27th April 2017

We've got a hotfix on JS Test at the moment that we're hoping to push to JS Live as soon as we're confident in it.

There are just a few fixes in this one:
  • Restored Airdrop Tickets UI. This was removed in error, there are no plans to change Airdrop tickets or remove them from player's inventories, although they were removed from the marketplace back in January.
  • Fixed a login exploit. We will explain this in greater detail when the fix goes live.
  • Fixed an issue with the "Leather Flannel Vest" and "Eagle Flannel Vest" that caused them to render incorrectly.

Just Survive Game Update 26th April 2017

[UPDATE: April 27th 6:26PM]

We've updated Live with a small hotfix to address a few issues:
  • We've restored the Airdrop Tickets UI. This was removed in error and there are no plans to change Airdrop Tickets or remove them from player's inventories.
  • Fixed an exploit with logging in and gates.
  • Fixed an issue with the "Leather Flannel Vest" and "Eagle Flannel Vest" that caused them to render incorrectly.
  • Live Servers have been wiped
  • Multiple fixes for a number of CTD scenarios, including a situation while placing doors on shacks while inside them crashed to desktop
  • Fixed an exploit where players could cause ethanol to float
  • Fixed a legacy bug that permitted an exploit that crashed servers. Fixing this has also given us a significant boost in overall server performance as it eliminated unnecessary tick cycles for redundant NPCs.
  • Several marketplace UI tweaks
  • Fixed an issue where you would crash to desktop when trying to join a second server after already playing on a different server
  • Fixed an issue where the player’s head would vanish when aiming down the sights while prone
  • Fixed an exploitable bug where players could log out on certain objects and log back in to find themselves inside the object
  • Fixed an exploit that allowed players to glitch into a sitting position while moving
  • Fixed an issue where anti-exploit code could falsely register and kill players jumping on rooftops
  • Gates now self-destruct when penetrating objects are present (please note that the following items will be destroyed, however: furnaces, storage containers, bee boxes, dew collectors, BBQs, wooden barricades, animal traps, barbed wire, punji sticks, workbenches, and weapon workbenches)
  • Fixed an issue with gates inadvertently blowing up when placed adjacent to valid walls
  • Recursive destruction has been enabled to help combat floating bases. Destroying the root object will destroy all objects attached to it (e.g., an upper shelter)
  • Ongoing specific exploit/cheating countermeasures
  • Our new JS crate 'Outlands' has been released
